Dan: I saw the Cloud Cap station in all it's tipped over glory
24 Nov 09, 13:27
larry: so it's just tipped over? Can't we just push it back upright?
24 Nov 09, 13:29
Dan: Looked like some damage occured when it toppled
24 Nov 09, 13:29
Dan: It is a cool place for a station, hope it's back up and running someday
24 Nov 09, 13:30
WindPaddle: It broke everything and they finally hauled the mess away. It was sad to see the weatherheads smashed like that
24 Nov 09, 13:30
WindPaddle: It was registering gusts to 80 when it went offline
24 Nov 09, 13:30
WindPaddle: They didn't anchor it much at all!
24 Nov 09, 13:32
Dan: I used to have a link to that station but can't find it now
24 Nov 09, 13:33
Dan: and btw I was tempted to join Magpie but I didn't have the time or energy this morning

Tweedle Dee: Cloud Cap RAWS station going through the environmental analysis phase and will likely be up next summer
24 Nov 09, 14:49
larry: Ahh, it's a RAS station, thanks [link]
24 Nov 09, 14:50
larry: I mean a RAWS station, darn it.
24 Nov 09, 14:56
larry: The one on Middle Mt is also a RAWS station: [link]
24 Nov 09, 14:56
Tweedle Dee: The justification included the recent fire activity in the area as well as aiding the predicition of conditions causing debris torrents coming off the south and east flank of Mt. Hood.
24 Nov 09, 14:57
Tweedle Dee: The National Weather Service has incuded debris torrent predicitions for this area after the Gnarl Ridge fire.
24 Nov 09, 14:58
Tweedle Dee: predictions should be warnings
24 Nov 09, 14:58
larry: Good plan. That area definitely has the potential for debris torrents.
24 Nov 09, 15:01
larry: let's see... wasn't it sort of a debris torrent that washed out Hiwy 35 by the upper road that goes to Cooper Spur back in the early 80's?

larry: Pollalie Creek Debris Flow and Subsequent Dam-Break Flood of 1980 [link]
24 Nov 09, 15:17
Tweedle Dee: I like to maintain my anonymity but that little speck of a person standing in the "after" picture for Newton Creek in your link is me.
24 Nov 09, 15:31
larry: Your anonymity is safe, Tweedle, I can't hardly even see the people standing there. I might have more luck after I blow them up to wall size. But those are quite impressive pictures.
24 Nov 09, 15:34
Tweedle Dee: If you look real hard, you can see my dark jeans. I am standing next to Newton Creek about midway in the photo. This was after the 2000 flood event. Quite impressive!
24 Nov 09, 15:34
larry: Hmm... that is part of a Powerpoint poster... hmm I can blow up the image to gigantic proportions on screen
24 Nov 09, 15:35
larry: nope, you're still pretty much fuzzy pixels. :)
24 Nov 09, 15:36
larry: fuzzy pixels wearing dark jeans, an orange top, and hands in pockets. Zooming in for positive ID. I should have your social security number momentarily.
24 Nov 09, 15:37
Tweedle Dee: Funny, that's what my wife says about me................just a bunch of fuzzy pixels!!
24 Nov 09, 15:39
larry: What year was the Newton Creek flood?
24 Nov 09, 15:49
Tweedle Dee: The photo is the 2000 event. The last major one was 2006.
24 Nov 09, 16:15
Dan: I remember that flood of 1980, it was around Xmas I think. One person was killed
24 Nov 09, 16:20
spinsur: yep, local logger, camped in a trailer above the junction
24 Nov 09, 16:42
steve schneider: hmmmm - nice picks guys - every day thesame here in Tucson -no clouds, little wind, morning in the 40s warming to the 70s by 12.30 and cooling fast at sundown. Expect 3 more days of same before returning - it is a nice break
24 Nov 09, 16:42
steve schneider: even took a hot shower around noon - outside inthe front yard!
24 Nov 09, 16:51
Dan: My Father in Law used to live just south in Green Valley and we spent a few Xmas's down there. But we where not allowed to take showers in the front yard
24 Nov 09, 17:01
steve schneider: my son in law built an incredible outdoor shower about 8 feet diameter circle with a series of formed concrete slabsl leadingfrom the patio to it. It leads into the circle trouhg an inward spiral so is compeletely private. All heated by an instant hot water propane fired unit and the waterrunsoff into a wash that waters his apricot tree and a few other more water needy desert plants
24 Nov 09, 17:02
steve schneider: But it is a little disconcerting to be standing in the front "yard" annd lovelydesert landscape - looking overthe 5 ft enclosure atthe neighbors house while showering!
24 Nov 09, 17:03
steve schneider: obviously the space bar on this keyboard is not used to my rapid fire keyboard technique!
24 Nov 09, 18:22

24 Nov 09, 20:49
cap: how many showed up?
24 Nov 09, 20:50
Larry: at the Glacier talk? The place was standing room only; I estimate maybe 60 or so.
24 Nov 09, 20:53
Larry: At the preliminary Nacho Fest, let's just say it was a quite cozy, almost intimate crowd.
24 Nov 09, 20:53

24 Nov 09, 21:11
cap: Skys won't be dark yet
24 Nov 09, 21:11
cap: skies
24 Nov 09, 21:11
Larry: I'll remind again tomorrow. Actually, I think skies will be starting to dim enough, especially at a magnitude -3.3
24 Nov 09, 21:12
Temira: Tell you guys what. I'll check out the Meadows nachos either Thursday, Saturday or Sunday.
